Description :

|
From a noted Civil War Collector. Plate was worn and saved by Sgt. Thomas Wrangham of Whitehall, NY. Wrangham was in the 123rd NY Infantry and was evidently struck in the cartridge box at the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA. in May 1863. Wrangham removed the plate from his ruined cartridge box and evidently saved it and the bullet as a souvenir of his wartime service. At some later date he scratched "Chancellorsville" on the back of the plate and attached it to his wartime cap pouch. He or a relative glued the spent Minie ball which had pierced his plate to the cap boxat that time. Artifact came down thru his wife's family. Wrangham thought enough of this item that probably saved his life to keep it in his family until his death in 1893.
