Fine US M1860 Staff Officers Sword and Scabbard by Shannon, Crane & Miller New York. Sword is etched on brilliant blade to Lt. Col. William Cary Sanger of the 203rd New York Infantry during the Spanish American War. Blade is etched in a military motif and in excellent condition. Handsome guard retains 80% plus original gilt. Superb tan leather grips and double wire wrap. Retains original cloth of gold sword knot and nickle steel scabbard with brass fittings. Col. Sanger was a decorated officer of the New York Line and Under Secretary of Defense under McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. Sword comes with a photo of Col. Sanger and copies of his military records and biographical information as well.
