INSCRIBED CIVIL WAR FOOT OFFICERS SWORD AND SCABBARD

Description :
Probably an Ames. 35 Inches overall with a bright 29 inch blade. Blade etched in a military motif with a Federal Eagle on the right flat and stands of flags on the left. Left ricasso etched "Paris" so this is probably an imported blade. Mellow brass hilt is inscribed, "To C. Rawling From Chaplain J.H. Brown". I have no idea who either of these people were. Fine grips with all of the sharkskin wrap and bright brass wire. Black saddle leather scabbard with Ames Scroll on top gilt mount. Very nice sword that deserves research.
