HANDSOME AMERICAN SHORT SWORD FROM THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR

31 Inches overall with a gently curved 26 inch blade. The blade is smooth and in exemplary condition. Single narrow fuller along the back of the blade and this is accented by a single decorative line below. For three inches along the ricasso the sword is engrave in a broad scroll exactly like those seen in the wood of Kentucky Rifles of the same period. Top edge of the ricasso is decorated with chiseled "VVVVVV's" in a line forming a chain. Deep umber brass guard in a heart shape leads to a single knuckle bow and brass pommel cap. The cap itself is decorative, being lapped over in a pie-crust decor. Spiral serrated hardwood grips in perfect condition. Extremely good condition. It is very much like several examples in "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George Nuemann.
