CONFEDERATE IMPORTED, PATTERN 1851 TOWER MINIE RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, .70 caliber, British Pattern 1851 Rifle Musket. The P-1851 was the last British musket to use barrel keys to attach the barrel and stock. It was the first British musket designed for use with the new, French designed, hollow based "Minie" bullet. They had a short service life, as the venerable P-1853 Rifle Musket was adopted just two years later. 10,000 of these muskets were purchased by the Confederacy, from S. Isaac, Campbell and Co. in 1861. This musket is in fine condition. It has a mottled steel gray and dark brown patina. There is some pitting around the bolster at the lock. The brass has a nice dark bronze patina. The bore is dark, with pitting, but the rifling is visible along its length. The mechanics work very well. The stock is fine as well, with an even color and the usual small dings and scratches from use. There is a piece of wood missing just behind the hammer at the breech. The stock has the very faintest remnant of the CH / 1 marking on the comb of the stock. Only a portion of the circle around these letters remains visible. This is a good Confederate Long Arm.#20639
