CIVIL WAR, 5TH MODEL BURNSIDE CAVALRY CARBINE

This is an original, Civil war, 5th Model Burnside Cavalry Carbine. The Burnside was a percussion, breech loading arm that fired a .54 caliber metallic cartridge. It was one of the more widely used carbines and equipped a number of Union cavalry regiments. The 5th Model, known as the "Standard" model was produced and used in the largest numbers. Approximately 43,000 were made between 1863 and 1865. This carbine is in need of a little TLC, being only about fair in condition. The gun has an overall dark brown patina. The action works, but sticks a little sometimes. The hammer screw is missing and the threads in the post are stripped. The bore is dark and pitted, but the rifling is visible along its length. The butt stock has a repair to the toe. If you are looking for a restoration project or just want a Civil War carbine for over the fireplace, give this one some consideration. Stock no. 20740
