ANTIQUE, WWI, FRENCH MODEL 1886/93 LEBEL INFANTRY RIFLE

This is an antique, original, French Model 1886/93 Lebel Infantry Rifle manufactured at Tulle and chambered for the 8mm Lebel cartridge. The Model 1886 with the modifications of 1893 was the standard French Infantry weapon at the start of WWI. These modifications included an improved bolt head and the addition of a stacking bar. These rifles were arsenal refinished when the modifications took place. This rifle is in very good to fine condition. About 70% of the arsenal re-blued finish remains. The trigger guard has no remaining finish. The bolt and butt plate are bright. There is blue wear on the barrel forward of the rear sight. The gun is all matching, including the stock. The magazine floor plate number is restamped, but this was probably one when the rifle was modified. It has a fine bore with strong rifling and the mechanics are excellent. The stock has the usual dings and scratches from use. There is a small arsenal repair behind the rear barrel band. These rifles saw extensive hard use and usually show it.
