Item No.: 8060 Price : SOLD
Item : FINE. U.S. SPRINGFIELD M-1 GARAND RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, U.S. M-1 Garand Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in late 1944 and chambered for the .30-06 Government cartridge. The M-1 was the standard battle rifle of the American army in WWII and Korea. This is the rifle that George S. Patton called "The greatest battle implement ever devised". This rifle is in fine condition. It retains a number of original parts and about 95% of its armory parkerized finish. There is very little finish on the but plate. The mechanics are excellent. The bore is very fine with shiny rifling throughout. The barrel is original to the gun and dated "10-44". It has seen some use as the erosion is 3 1/2 at the muzzle and 3 at the throat. The stock is in very fine condition with a smooth, dark reddish brown, walnut color. The stock cartouche and "P" proof are both present. The stock cartouche is "S.A." over "N.F.R.". This was the marking of General Norman F. Ramsey who worked at Springfield from October, 1944 until November, 1945. The rear sight was replaced with a post war sight and the operating rod is a post war "HRA" replacement. Included is a U.S. M1907 leather sling in good condition. It is complete and flexible, but has darkened with age. There is some fine surface cracking of the leather overall. Any makers marks are no longer visible. This is a good looking M-1 rifle with a great stock, that should be an easy restoration to "as built" configuration. Stock no. 21210
