MAUSER S/42 "G" DATE P.08 LUGER

Description :
|
Here is an original, WWII, German P.08 Luger 9mm pistol manufactured by Mauser in 1935. It is stamped with the S/42 Mauser manufacturer's code and the date is represented by the single letter "G" stamped on the chamber. The date was coded to hide the fact that Germany was tooling for war in the 1930's. The "G" code was only used on Mauser P.08 pistols manufactured in 1935. This pistol is in very good condition. The finish shows overall wear, appearing thin and watery in places. About 40% of the factory blue remains, with the remainder of the gun having a smooth light brown patina. There is very little straw color remaining on those parts so finished. The bore is very fine. The mechanics work well, but the safety lever has little resistance when operated. The gun has a mismatched side plate and magazine. The grips are unnumbered and are cast from a dark brown plastic or resin. They look like wood, they feel like wood, they even have wood grain cast into the back. It was only when I removed them to see if they were numbered that I realized they were cast. If you view the back under magnification, tiny casting bubbles are visible. I know the Russians made some cast P.08 replacement grips for captured pistols, but I don't think these fall into that category. I do know that if you display this gun, nobody will ever question their being real! The magazine is a standard WWII issue, in very fine condition. "G" date Lugers are far more scarce than the later, numerically dated examples. Stock no. 18438
