1808 DATED HARPERS FERRY MODEL 1795 MUSKET
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1795 harpers Ferry Flintlock Musket of .69 caliber. This is an early Type 2 musket manufactured in 1808, with the U.S. still stamped under the Eagle on the lock plate. This was the first type arm produced at the new National Armory at Harpers Ferry. Basically a copy of the French Charleville, they were produced, with minor variations, until 1815. This musket is in very good condition, but may be an early re-conversion to flint. The barrel has a steel color, heavily speckled with a dark brown patina. The lock and remaining parts have a smooth dark brown patina. The finish on the butt plate is a little rougher. The lock works well. The bore is dark with fairly heavy pitting. The stock is very good, with just the usual scattering of small dings and scratches from use. The tang screw may be a replacement. This is a nice example of the first type Harpers Ferry Musket. Stock no. 22017
