FINE, AS BUILT, 1942 SPRINGFIELD M-1 GARAND RIFLE
Description :
Here is an original, WWII, U.S. M-1 Garand Rifle built at Springfield Armory in July of 1942. It is chambered for the .30-06 Government cartridge. It remains in its original, as built configuration with all correct parts. The op rod is un-cut and the parts have the correct draw numbers. The barrel is dated "7-42" and the barrel date markings are in the correct upside down position. The rifle is in fine condition. It retains about 95% of its factory parkerized finish, with the exception of the gas cylinder and butt plate. The gas cylinder has about 40% of its finish remaining, which is common on the earlier cylinders. The metal alloy of the cylinder did not retain its finish well. The butt plate has about 70% of its finish remaining. The mechanism works perfectly. The bore is good. It is mostly shiny, is a little frosty near the muzzle. The rifling is strongly visible along its length. The stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings from use. The cartouche is the correct "S.A." over "E.McF." for Colonel Earl McFarland who only inspected rifles in June and July of 1942. The Circle "P" proof is lightly stamped but visible on the wrist of the stock. The rifle is fitted with an original Model 1907 leather sling made by "BOYT" and dated 1944. It is in very good condition, dark but still flexible. This is a fine, as-built Springfield M-1 Rifle. Stock no. 22265
