Item No.: 8438 Price : SOLD
Item : VERY FINE, U.S. MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle built at Springfield Armory in 1889. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. The Model 1884 featured the new Buffington rear sight. Early guns used existing Model 1873 breech blocks, as present on this rifle. Approximately 200,000 were produced. This rifle is in very fine to excellent condition. It retains more than 95% of its armory blued finish. There is just a touch of finish wear at the muzzle. The butt plate has about 40% of its blue remaining. The breech block retains nearly all of its case colors. There is a small cleaned area over the breech block markings. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The bore remains bright and shiny with sharp rifling along its length. The stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings from use. The 1889 dated Inspector's cartouche is crisp. This is a beautiful example of the M1884 trapdoor that will enhance any collection. Stock no. 22256
