Item No.: 8460 Price : SOLD
Item : RARE, CRIMEAN WAR, RUSSIAN MODEL 1845 PERCUSSION SMOOTHBORE MUSKET
Description :
This is an original, Russian Model 1845 Percussion Smoothbore Musket made at Tula Arsenal in 1849. Based on the French Model 1842 musket, the M1845 was one of the standard Russian infantry muskets of the Crimean War (1854-1856). One of these muskets, with nearly identical markings, is on display at the National Army Museum in London, England, captured at the battle of Alma in 1854. This musket is in fine condition, complete and all original. The lock and barrel have a dark brown patina, with light pitting overall. The lock works well, with only a full cock position. There is no half cock. The bore is dark, with some pitting, but mostly smooth. The brass furniture has a great, dark bronze patina. The stock, of stained Arctic birch, is in fine condition with just a few small dings and scratches from use. The musket has numerous cyrillic markings on the various parts, mostly arsenal markings and manufacture dates for the parts. The lock is marked with the cyrillic letters for Tula Arsenal and the date "1849" The barrel is also marked, with a date of "1848". An Imperial Russian Eagle is stamped on the tang of the butt. This is a rare and important Russian longarm of the Crimean War. Stock no. 22297
