SCARCE, COLT FIRST MODEL DERINGER

This is an original, Colt First Model Deringer chambered for the .41 rimfire cartridge. This little pocket pistol was originally produced by the National Arms Company of Brooklyn, New York as their No.1 deringer. Colt purchased the company in 1870 and began producing the deringers under the Colt name. About 6500 were made between 1870 and 1890. It is an all steel pistol with a 2 ½” barrel. It is in fine condition with about 40% of its factory blued finish remaining, with light fading overall. The remainder of the gun is turning brown. The frame is not plated, having instead a gray steel patina with light flecks of brown. The mechanism works very well. The bore has some light speckling, but strong rifling along its length. This is a fairly scarce piece to find for the Colt collector. Stock no. 22314
