SUPERB, U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle Manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1886. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. The rifle is in very fine to excellent condition. It retains more than 95% of its factory blued finish. There is a small spot of corrosion on the nose cap that extends a little bit onto the barrel. The entire surface of the blemish is about the area of a quarter. There is a bit of finish wear on the high points of the barrel bands and a little more on the heel and toe of the butt. The lock plate has a very small amount of mottling of the blue. The breech block and tang retain all of their rich case color. The mechanics work perfectly and the gun has an excellent shiny bore. The stock is very fine with just a few small dings from use. It has a crisp 1886 dated cartouche on the left wrist. The rifle retains its original leather sling which is marked "U.S.". These Trapdoor slings were made from two Civil War slings spliced together. This one is in excellent condition and a rarity in its own right. This is a superb Trapdoor that will enhance any collection. Stock no. 22400
