MOORE'S PATENT FIREARMS .32 PINFIRE BELT REVOLVER

Description :
|
Here is an original, Moore's Patent Firearms Company Single Action Revolver chambered for the .32 Rimfire cartridge. The Moore was a breech loading cartridge gun and a major competitor of Smith & Wesson. In fact, Smith & Wesson sued Moore's for patent infringement and forced them out of business. They were only produced from 1861 to 1863. A few late examples are actually marked "Manf'd For Smith & Wesson by Moore's Patent Firearms Co." on the top barrel flat. This is one of the pistols so marked. The Moore was a "7-shooter" available in three barrel lengths. The barrel and cylinder swiveled to the right for loading. Cases were ejected using a detachable rod carried under the barrel. This gun is in very good to fine condition. It has the desirable 6" barrel and retains its original ejector rod. There are traces of blue left on the barrel, but no finish on the cylinder. These parts mostly have a pewter gray patina. There is a trace of silver plating left on the brass trigger guard and back strap. The mechanics work well. The bore and chambers are dark, but the rifling is strong in the barrel. The right grip has a chip at the toe. This was a popular pistol with Union officers and enlisted men and many were known to have been privately purchased and carried during the Civil War.
