CIVIL WAR COLT U.S. MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER
Description :
This is an original, Civil War, U.S. Model 1860 Army Revolver manufactured by Colt in 1863. The .44 caliber, percussion Model 1860 was the standard service revolver of the Union Army during the Civil War. By war's end nearly 156,00 had been made. When Colt stopped production of the M1860 in 1873, over 200,000 had been made. They were quite popular and many were carried into the great American West. I believe this pistol went West. It has been fitted with a rear sight that is inlet into the barrel. The owner has scratched the initials "D.J.B." into the butt. The revolver is in good to very good condition. It is all matching, except the wedge which is not numbered. There is no finish remaining. The frame, barrel, and cylinder have a mottled pewter and brown patina. The brass trigger guard has a nice bronze patina. The mechanics work well. The bore and chambers are a little dark, but mostly smooth. The rifling is strong along the bore's length. The wooden grips are good. There is a small chip on each side at the toe. There are a few small dings and scratches from use and a little wear on the edges. Both grips have faint remnants of the inspector's cartouches. This is a nice old warhorse that probably had quite a history for some time after the Civil War. Stock no. 22858
