Description :
|
This is an original, Civil War, U.S. Model 1860 Army Revolver manufactured by Colt in 1861. The .44 caliber, percussion Model 1860 was the standard service revolver of the Union Army during the Civil War. By war's end nearly 156,00 had been made. When Colt stopped production of the M1860 in 1873, over 200,000 had been made. They were quite popular and many were carried into the great American West. This is an early production revolver with a cut for the shoulder stock and the 4th screw in the frame. The screw heads of this screw supported the shoulder stock yoke. This revolver is in antique good condition. It has an overall dark brown patina. The cylinder has a number of dents on the surface. The trigger guard has a dark reddish patina. The mechanics work, but need some tweaking. The main spring is very weak and won't drop the hammer completely when lowered manually. The bore is dark, but has strong rifling. The grips are good with a couple of tiny chips on the butt. There are no visible cartouches. This is a nice early Colt Army. Stock no. 22861
