CIVIL WAR REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER
Description :
Here is an original, Civil War Remington New Model Army .44 caliber percussion revolver. Approximately 122,000 of these were produced between 1863 and 1875. About 90,000 had been manufactured by wars end. This revolver's 90,xxx serial number places it right at the end of wartime production guns. The Remington was the 2nd most carried revolver of the war. With its solid frame and back strap, it was also the strongest, and many thought the Remington to be superior to the Colt. This revolver is in very good condition. It retains about 40% of its original blue finish, which is turning a smoot dark brown. There is some significant pitting on the gun, in patches on the barrel frame, cylinder, and lever. The brass trigger guard has been cleaned. The mechanics work very well. The chambers are rusty, but the bore is actually pretty good. There is a little pitting, but the rifle is strong along the barrel's length, and large portions remain shiny. The left grip scale is fine with a clear inspector's cartouche. The right grip has a large piece of missing wood repaired and no cartouche. This is a good display example of the Remington New Model Army. Stock no. 23074
