Item No.: 9425 Price : SOLD
Item : CIVIL WAR MODEL 1862 JOSLYN CAVALRY CARBINE
Description :
Here is an original Model 1862 Joslyn Cavalry Carbine manufactured in 1864 and chambered for the .52 Rimfire cartridge. Made by the Joslyn Fire Arms Company of Stonington, Connecticut, the breech loading Joslyn was one of the more widely used carbines of the War. The first Joslyns were delivered early in the war and deliveries continued into 1865. Cavalry Regiments known to have received the Joslyn were the 4th and 8th Indiana, the 19th New York, the 13th Tennessee, the 9th Pennsylvania, the 3rd West Virginia, the 2nd Wisconsin, the 1st Nebraska, the 1st Nevada, and the 11th Ohio. This carbine is in fine condition. It retains about 70% of its factory blued finish oversprinkled with specks of brown patina giving the metal a dark appearance. The brass furniture has a good even bronze patina. The butt has a number of small dents. This is what happens when you use the butt of your carbine to hammer in tent pegs! The lock and mechanics work well. The bore is in fine condition. There are a few tiny pits, but for the most part the bore is bright and shiny. The stock is in fine condition with some small dings and scratches from use. There are two visible inspector's cartouches on the left flat of the stock above the sling bar. The forend shows some very nice flame walnut figure! This is a nice example of a Joslyn, a carbine widely used during the Civil War. Stock no. 25240
