Here is an original, Colt Model 1849 Percussion Pocket Revolver manufactured in 1856. This is a .31 caliber, 5-shot revolver with a 4" barrel. Produced continuously from 1850-1873, the M1849 Pocket was tremendously popular, and over 350,000 were made. Approximately 280,000 had been produced by the Civil War's end in 1865. The M1849 went west on the Oregon Trail and traveled to the California Gold Fields. Thousands were privately purchased and carried by soldiers of both sides during the Civil War. After the war, thousands more were again carried into the great American West. It is an iconic American firearm. This revolver is in good condition. It is a scarcer variant having iron grip straps and trigger guard. The vast majority were brass. There is no finish remaining on this gun. It has an overall steel gray patina. It is all matching including the wedge. The action works correctly, but the cylinder advances a fraction of an inch too far. The er is some pitting in the bore, but the rifling is visible along the barrel's length. The grips are in very good condition with some wear of the varnished finish. Each grip is stamped with "M. ZIMMET". Iron mounted '49 Pockets are not frequently encountered. Stock no. 22882
