Item No.: 10365 Price : $1,295.00
Item : U.S. MODEL 1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE, 1930'S REBUILD, .30-06, W/BAYONET
Description :
Here is a U.S. Model 1903 Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1918. It is chambered for the .30-06 Government cartridge. The '03 was the standard U.S. battle rifle of the First World War. It continued to serve after the adoption of the M1 Garand. The '03 was used throughout World War II. It saw combat use in the early campaigns and was used as a platform for rifle grenades right through the end of the war. This rifle is in very good to fine condition. It was rebuilt in the 1930's at Springfield and was rebarreled and parkerized at that time. The new Springfield barrel is dated "10-32". The rifle saw another re-inspection, if not a rebuild, after the war. It has the markings from Raritan arsenal on the stock. The gun retains about 90% of its parkerized finish with some wear on the front sight band and barrel band. There is some wear on the bolt handle and high exposed edges of the gun. The rifle has excellent mechanics with a Remington made bolt. The bore is excellent as well. The stock is a Type "C" with a full pistol grip. It is in fine condition with a few dings and scratches from use. The only marking visible is the Raritan Arsenal marking, "RA-P". Included is a leather copy of the M1 web sling and an M1 Bayonet. I believe both are of foreign manufacture, probably Greek. I have never seen a leather M1 (Not M1907!) sling. It is in very fine condition. The bayonet has US markings but is not anything I recognize. It is in good condition with some fairly heavy wear on the grip scales. The finish shows heavy wear as well. I think these 1930's reworked '03 Springfields are exactly what the Marine Corps used in the early WWII campaigns. Stock no. 30017
