This is an original, U.S. Model 1903A1 National Match Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in late 1929 or early 1930. It has a correct, Type "C" pistol grip stock with a "P" proof behind the trigger guard and a "D.A.L." inspector's cartouche on the left side of the wrist. This was for Donald A. Leary, who was apparently the only inspector at Springfield for National Match rifles. These Type "C" stocks were first used in 1929. The rifle has the correct black parkerized finish used at Springfield in the 20's and 30's. The bolt is polished bright and numbered to the gun. The rear sight is the correct type with a polished face and no sighting notch in the top leaf. The barrel is star-gauged and dated "12-29". The star gauge marking is faint, but definitely there. This rifle is in very fine condition with more than 95% of its parkerized finish remaining. There is a bit of light finish wear on the nose cap, barrel band, and front sight base. The bright bolt handle has darkened just a little. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is very fine to excellent with just a small ding or two from use. There is a thin, one-inch scratch on the left side between the stock bolts. The "C" stocks as originally built are more slender than later WWII production stocks. These stocks were numbered. While this is a correct stock, it does not match the serial number of the gun. It is in the same range. I suspect it got swapped by mistake while cleaning or servicing the rifles. This is a very rare variant of the '03 Springfield. Stock no. 30412
