U.S MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK MUSKET BY "D. NIPPES", .69 CALIBER
Description :
Here is an original, U.S Model 1816 Flintlock Musket made by "D. Nippes" of Mill Creek, Pennsylvania in 1839. Nippes made approximately 1,600 of these under government contract between 1837 and 1840. This is a "Type III configuration gun. These had a strengthened trigger guard where the sling swivel was mounted and were finished armory bright rather than being browned. This type of musket was the type most used for percussion conversion. Existing flintlock examples are quite scarce. This musket is in fine condition. It remains armory bright with a light scattering of brown patina speckling. This is a little heavier on the rigger guard and butt plate. The mechanics are excellent. The bore has some significant pitting in areas, but a lot of it remains smooth. The stock is in fine condition with just a few small dings from use. There is a visible inspector's cartouche on the left flat of the stock. This is a scarce U.S. musket in nice condition. Stock no. 31710
