Item :	CIVIL WAR, CONFEDERATE IMPORTED KERR CAVALRY REVOLVER, .44 CALIBER

This is an original, British Kerr percussion cavalry revolver made at the London Armory and imported by the Confederate States of America. It is a single-action, 5-shot percussion revolver of .54 Bore (.44 Caliber). It is believed that most of the Kerr Revolvers between serial number 1019 and number 9975 were acquired by the Confederacy. This revolver's number, 2974, places it squarely in the correct range. This is an early Kerr, a 2nd variation. While it has the small uncheckered area on the grip below the trigger guard, the Confederate viewer's mark ("JS"/Anchor) is not visible. I think something was stamped there, but I can't be sure. It is known that some of the Confederate imported Kerr revolvers were not marked. This revolver, found in Virginia, is in antique good condition. It has an overall steel gray and dark brown patina. The steel gray areas have a heavy sprinkling of brown patina. The trigger guard is dark brown. The hammer and most of the lock is also a dark brown. Mechanically, the hammer will cock and the fall when the trigger is pulled. The cylinder has some fore and aft play in it, turns freely, and will not advance when cocked. The upper tang is broken off at the screw and the tip is missing. There is some rust in the bore, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. There is some light rust in the chambers. The one-piece wooden grip shows wear of the checkering from use and a few tiny dings. There are no chips or cracks. I can find no serial number on the cylinder. This is a great old Confederate Warhorse. Stock no. 31808
