Description :

|
This is one of the rare Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 rifles produced after Rock Island ceased normal production on June 30,1919. The last production rifle had serial number 346,779. This rifle has serial number 427,374. In March of 1926, Rock Island Arsenal sent all of their remaining parts, including over 25,000 receivers, to Springfield Armory to be used for rebuild and repair. This rifle was probably assembled at Springfield Armory using those parts. It has a Springfield barrel dated "3-38". The stock has an "A.A.J." inspector's cartouche and a 7/16" circled "P" firing proof. The rifle is in very fine condition with more than 95% of its dark gray parkerized finish remaining. There are some scratches around the front sight sleeve. The barrel band appears to be refinished. The mechanics are excellent. There is a heavy coat of cosmoline in the barrel and action, so the bore can't be seen. I suspect that given the overall condition of the rifle, the bore is excellent. The stock is in excellent condition with crisp markings. The handguard is marked D28179. These high number Rock Island '03 rifles are pretty rare. This one looks like it was never issued after being built at Springfield. Stock no. 32239
