Description :

|
This is an original, WWI, U.S. Model 1917 Rifle produced by Remington in 1918. The U.S. Model 1917 was based on the British P-14 Rifle being produced under contract by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The British contracts ended just as America entered WWI. Rather than retool to make the Model 1903, it was decided to alter the P-14 to accept the U.S. .30-06 Government cartridge and the M1917 Rifle was born. Over 2.5 million were produced before the war's end. The M1917 actually saw more service in the war than the '03 Springfield. Alvin York won his Congressional Medal of Honor with a Model 1917 Rifle. This rifle was rebuilt for service in WWII where it was given a new barrel by Johnson Automatics. This rifle is in fine condition with more than 90% of its blued and parkerized finishes remaining. There is some finish wear on exposed edges, bolt handle knob, and butt plate. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is very good with a scattering of small dings and scratches consistent with use. This is a good example of the Model 1917 as used in WWII. Stock no. 32227
