This is a percussion boot pistol made by "W. Gibbs" dating to the 1850's. It is a single-shot, under hammer design with a 7-1/2" octagonal barrel. It is about .42 caliber depending on the patch you use. This pistol is in very good condition with about 70% of its original brown finish remaining. There is some light rust speckling on the barrel. About 30% of the barrel has some varnish left protecting the brown. This may be original to the gun, but I am not sure. The brass thumb plate and the brass plate on the butt have a nice dark yellow brass patina. The trigger plate has a steel gray patina. The action works correctly. the rifles bore is dark with some rusting, but I think it will clean up well. the wooden grip is fine with most of the varnish remaining. There is a strip of exposed wood at the base of the pommel that looks like a band may have been inlaid there. If so, it is missing. This is a fine example of an under hammer boot pistol.
