Description :

|
This is an original, Australian, No.I, Mk.III Enfield Rifle manufactured at Lithgow Small Arms factory in 1916. It is chambered for the .303 British cartridge. This was the standard Australian battle rifle of both World Wars. This rifle appears to have been refurbished for service in WWII and then never issued. It was given a dark gray phosphate finish very much like Parkerizing. It was also restocked in a new wood. The rifle is in very fine to excellent refurbished condition. It retains more than 955 of the gray finish with some very light wear on exposed edges. The barrel band has been polished. The butt plate is developing a darker patina. The rifle has excellent mechanics with an unnumbered bolt. The phosphate finish makes the action a little less smooth, but it should get smoother with use. The bore is excellent. The military replacement stock is just about new. There does not appear to be any finish on it at all. The small armory markings on the bottom of the stock are crisp. The receiver ring is marked "4 MD" for the 4th Military District. During WWII, the 4th Military District covered all of Southern Australia. Included is a green OD web sling in fine condition. This is a fine old war horse that served in WWI and was then regroomed for WWII. Stock no. 32441
