Item No.: 10765 Price : $895.00
Item : EDDYSTONE U.S. MODEL 1917 RIFLE, .30-06
Description :
This is an original, WWI, U.S. Model 1917 Rifle produced by Eddystone in 1918. The U.S. Model 1917 was based on the British P-14 Rifle being produced under contract by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The British contracts ended just as America entered WWI. Rather than retool to make the Model 1903, it was decided to alter the P-14 to accept the U.S. .30-06 Government cartridge and the M1917 Rifle was born. Over 2.5 million were produced before the war's end. The M1917 actually saw more service in the war than the '03 Springfield. Alvin York won his Congressional Medal of Honor with a Model 1917 Rifle. This rifle is in fine condition. It has been arsenal refurbished for service in WWII and was given a parkerized finish at that time. It retains about 95% of this finish. There is some wear on the butt plate. There was some rusting on the barrel ahead of the nose cap that has been finished over. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a good bore. The bore is a little dark with some texture in the grooves, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. The stock is very good with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. Included is an original Kerr "NO-BUKL" sling in fine condition. Stock no. 32588
