CIVIL WAR SAVAGE REVOLVING FIRE-ARMS CO. NAVY MODEL REVOLVER, .36 CAL.

Description :
This is an original, Civil War Navy Model revolver made by the Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Company of Middletown, Connecticut. Savage made about 20,000 of these in the first half of the 1860's. Most of these were produced on Government contracts with revolvers going to both the Army and the Navy. This is a .36 caliber, 6-shot, percussion revolver with a unique cocking system. The gun is cocked by pulling a ringed lever beneath the trigger. This pulls the hammer back to the fully cocked position. It can then be fired conventionally with the trigger. This revolver is in very good condition. It has an overall, mostly smooth, gray/brown patina. There are a few pits visible on the gun and the barrel may have been cleaned in the past. It has redeveloped patina since then. The action works correctly. The percussion nipples show a little battering. The bore is dark and rusted. The grips show significant wear from use and have a number of small dings and scratches from use. No inspector's cartouche is visible on the grips. The Savage Navy revolver is a big, impressive handgun of the American Civil War. Stock no. 32762
