Item :	STARR ARMS CO. SINGLE ACTION 1863 ARMY REVOLVER, .44 CALIBER

This is an original, Civil War, Starr Arms Co. Single Action 1863 Army Revolver. It is a 6-shot, .44 caliber, percussion revolver with an 8" barrel. Starr produced about 32,000 of these from 1863 to 1865. The US government purchased about 25,000, making the single action Starr the 3rd most issued revolver of the war. This Starr is in very good condition with an overall smooth, dark brown patina. There are a number of small dings and dents in the metal on the frame and barrel sides, like small peen marks. The mechanics work very well. The bore is dark brown and textured, but the rifling is strong along the bore's length. The grips are in fine condition with a tiny ding or two from use. The gun has sub-inspector markings indicating that it is a military gun. There is no cartouche on the grip, but there is a flat filed where it would have been. I suspect that the individual who "appropriated" this revolver may have removed the cartouche. That area is nicely finished and matches the grips perfectly, so I think it was done a long time ago. This is a nice example of the Civil War Starr Revolver. Stock no. 32761
