This is an original, Smith & Wesson No.2 Old Model Revolver chambered for the .32 Long Rimfire cartridge. Smith & Wesson made these from 1861 until 1874. They were quite popular and a number were carried by Officers and Enlisted Men during the Civil War. They were equally popular in the American West. Cuter carried a pair and Wild Bill Hickock was carrying one the night he was shot. This pistol is an extremely early example with a three-digit serial number. It was undoubtedly made in 1861. The owner decided he wanted a short, barreled carry gun and had the barrel professionally cut down to 3-inches and a new front sight installed. This revolver is in fine condition with 70-80% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is light overall wear, and the cylinder is turning brown. There are a few tiny speckles elsewhere. To the naked eye the gun looks blue, in the photos it seems to have a lot more brown. The mechanics are excellent. The bore and chambers are in fine condition. The rifling is strong. The rosewood grips are in fine condition with a few small dings from use. I think the shortened barrel adds a great deal of interest to this revolver. Someone needed a "Belly Gun" and this was the result. I love it! Stock no. 32891
