Item :	PAIR OF ENGLISH TRADE FLINTLOCK PISTOLS, FUR TRADE ERA, .60 CALIBER

Here is a pair of Flintlock Pistols made in England circa 1815-1820. They are typical of the pistols made for trade in North America during the Fur Trade era. The only markings on these guns are the proof marks on the barrels. The pistols are almost identical but have a couple of slight differences. One is .60 caliber and the other is about .62 caliber. One has two Crown over "CP" proofs and the other has two Crown over "V" proofs. The CP proof is the London Gunmakers Company Proof and indicates that the gun was proof fired with a massive charge of black powder. The V proof was a viewing proof stamped after a careful examination of the gun after the proof firing. Normally the V proof was stamped under the CP proof near the breech. If these pistols were made as a pair and proofed at the same time, it is possible that the inspector simply stamped the same proof on each gun. These are small pistols that would fit in a coat pocket or could be carried in a sash. The barrels are about 4-1/4" long. Both pistols are in fine condition. The barrels and locks are armory bright with a fine speckling of brown. The brass has a nice golden bronze patina. The locks on both work correctly. Both bores are in very good condition. There are a few small pits, but they are mostly smooth. the stocks are in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. One pistol has a small chip at the front of the lock mortise. The ramrod on the other pistol was broken but has been repaired with glue. The break is not visible when the ramrod is in its channel. This is a nice little brace of pistols. Stock no. 32909
