Item :	VERY FINE, REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER, .44 CALIBER

Here is an original, Civil War Remington New Model Army .44 caliber percussion revolver. Approximately 122,000 of these were produced between 1863 and 1875. About 90,000 had been manufactured by wars end. This revolver's 96,xxx serial number places it squarely in late wartime production as serialization began in the 15,000 range. The Remington was the 2nd most carried revolver of the war. With its solid frame and back strap, it was also the strongest, and many thought the Remington to be superior to the Colt. This revolver is in very fine condition with 60-65% of its original factory blued finish remaining. there is some overall wear consistent with use. The wear is heavier on the top three flats of the barrel, Top strap of the frame, and on the grip straps. These areas have developed a smooth brown patina. The bore, chambers, and mechanics are excellent. The walnut grips are very fine with just a very tiny ding or two from use. There is a tiny chip on the bottom edge of the left grip. The left grip has a crisp inspector's cartouche. There are a number of sub-inspector's initials on the gun. This is a nice example of a Remington New Model Army revolver in great condition.
