|
This is a Australian No.2, MK. IV Training Rifle chambered for the .22 Rimfire cartridge. Originally, this was a No.I, Mk.III* Rifle manufactured by Enfield in 1918. At some point, it was arsenal converted in Australia to a training rifle. The barrel was sleeved, converting it from .303 to .22 caliber. The rifle was fitted with a new bolt and the follower and spring were removed from the magazine. The rifle was now essentially a single-shot. Empty .22 shell cases were dropped into the empty shell of the magazine. This rifle is in fine condition with about 90% of its phosphate (parkerized) finish remaining. There is light overall wear, which is heavier on the exposed edges. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is very good with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. The markings on the stock indicate that the rifle was arsenal refurbished at Lithgow Arsenal in June of 1947. With its great bore this rifle should shoot well. Stock no. 33010
