VERY HANDSOME HARPERS FERRY US MODEL 1855 RIFLE

.58 Caliber Percussion US Military Long Arm. 2-Banded Iron Mounted and Maynard Priming System Rifle. "1861" Dated on lock and barrel. Beautiful, fine bright barrel, lock and furniture. Strong markings. Mint bore, excellent mechanics. Metal was kept in the bright and doesn't appear polished. Original sling swivels and ram rod. Oil finished stock shows wear around the mortise and flats. Barrel channel and ram rod channel are fine. My theory is that this arm was assembled in 1861 by The Commonwealth of Virginia from arms and parts captured at the Harpers Ferry Armory. State assemblers used the best metal they could find but as always stocks were in short supply. Very handsome Rifle.
