VERY RARE, SUPERB, CIVIL WAR, U.S. MARINE CORPS NCO SWORD AND SCABBARD

This is a very rare, Civil War U.S. Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer's sword and scabbard. On the left side of the blade, just forward of the ricasso is a small etched panel saying "Horstmann" over "-Phila.-". At the center of the left side of the blade is a large etched panel with "U.S.M.C" in large block letters. The sword is in very fine condition, retaining 98% of its factory bright finish. There is a small area of dark speckles on the right ricasso of the blade. The scabbard is very good to fine. It is complete and undamaged, with moderate surface cracking of the leather along its length. There is a weak area at the mid-point of the leather where it looks as if it may have been folded. The brass furniture has an even bronze patina, but has some moderate light denting of the tip. The Marine Corps was quite small during the Civil War. This is a very rare and desirable sword.
