FINE, U.S. MODEL 1898 KRAG-JORGENSEN RIFLE
Description :
This is a U.S. Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1900 and chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. Produced from 1894-1903, the Krag series of rifles had the shortest service career of any U.S. military longarm, just 9 years. The need for a weapon like the Mauser, that could be loaded from stripper clips led to the adoption of the M1903 Rifle. This rifle is in fine condition with about 70% of its factory blued finish remaining. The barrel retains most of its blue with the majority of the furniture beginning to turn brown. The receiver, originally case hardened with a black finish, has faded to a mottled dark gray. The fire blued extractor spring has lost a bit of its brightness. The rifle has a fine bore with strong rifling. The mechanics are excellent. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. There is a small gouge in the comb of the stock. There is a clear 1900 dated cartouche on the left side of the stock. This is a solid Krag. Stock no. 21220
