SMITH & WESSON .44 HAND EJECTOR FIRST MODEL (TRIPLE LOCK)
Description :
This is an original, Smith & Wesson First Model .44 Hand Ejector. Also known as the .44 New Century or the .44 Triple Lock for the third lock at the yoke, these were produced from 1908-1917 with 15,375 made. This revolver ushered in the modern age of S&W double action revolvers. This is a standard First Model, chambered for the .44 special cartridge. It is nickel plated with a 6 1/2" barrel and checkered walnut gold medallion grips. Included is a factory letter from Roy G. Jinks at Smith & Wesson. The letter confirms the gun was shipped in this configuration on February 25, 1916 to Cowdrey Company in New York City. This revolver is in fine condition. It retains about 90% of its factory nickel finish. There is some blistering of the nickel in small areas. These areas have lightly pitted and this has been polished off. This has resulted in some buff marks on the nickel in places. There are some freckles of dark brown patina on the barrel and cylinder. The revolver has excellent mechanics. The chambers are very fine. The bore has 3 or 4 small dark spots with pitting, but the majority of the bore is clean with sharp rifling. The correct walnut grips are excellent with full varnish and crisp checkering. They are not numbered. This is a fine old S&W .44 Triple Lock, the ancestor of the .44 Magnum. Stock no. 23211
